As an overnight breaking/trending news editor, you’ll be reporting breaking and developing stories, live-blogging events and sending push alerts. When you’re not reacting to breaking news, you’ll find and write stories that have the potential to go viral. You’re a competitive self-starter with strong news judgment who thrives under pressure and keeps a laser-sharp focus on metrics.

This is a shift-based role. You will be assigned the following:

  • Mon-Fri, 10:30p-6:30a Eastern time (7:30p-3:30a Pacific time)
  • Tue-Sat, 10:30p-6:30a Eastern time (7:30p-3:30a Pacific time)

 

Flexibility is vital to this role. You will be required to work some holidays and shift your schedule as news breaks.

 

A snapshot of your responsibilities includes:

  • Covering major breaking news stories, from writing initial copy to live-blogging events to alerting content
  • Finding stories through social media and hyperlocal websites to write and publish on Foxnews.com before they go viral
  • Writing engaging, SEO-friendly headlines
  • Running the FoxNews.com homepage 1-2 shifts per week
  • Looking for opportunities to proactively build content for upcoming events and stories
  • Participating in broader strategic discussions

 

Requirements:

  • 3-5 years of newsroom experience
  • Strong news judgment and knowledge of current events
  • Experience writing on deadline for a major news website
  • Must be a skilled, fast writer and self-editor with strong AP Style skills
  • Must have the desire to work in a creative, demanding, competitive environment
  • Experience using Chartbeat, Omniture and CrowdTangle
  • Must be able to work independently
  • Bachelor’s degree, preferably in journalism
