Freelance Producer

Fox News is looking for a highly motivated, pro-active, and creative Freelance Producer to work with our team producing morning packages and live shots for Fox’s O&O station group in the Washington, DC Bureau. Producers work hand-in-hand with correspondents generating story ideas, researching and gathering information, screening and selecting video and sound bites, fact-checking the script to ensure 100% accuracy, and overseeing the package editing session.  Occasionally the producer will also be called upon to write package scripts quickly and accurately.   The producer will also be responsible for trafficking a steady stream of live shots, ensuring stations remain within their 5-minute windows.  Candidates must be able to work well under pressure, possess strong communication skills and work well both independently and in a team environment. Five+ years’ experience producing live shots, packages, or field producing is required. Producer candidates must be willing to work an early-morning shift. Knowledge of or experience covering national politics and/or Congress is a plus.


  • Bachelor’s degree and 5+ years of broadcast experience
  • Strong editorial judgment and logistical skills
  • Ability to work well in a fast-paced and intense atmosphere
  • Knowledge of national politics and the DC area
  • Strong writing skills
  • Motivated, self-starter who is able to work independently as well as in a team environment
  • Flexibility to work early-morning shift
  • Familiarity with iNews and Microsoft Outlook a plus
  • Understanding of tapeless workflow in a newsroom
  • Ability to multi-task, prioritize, and triage is a necessity
