Job Description:
Fox News, the number one rated cable news network for six years running, is building a team of IT and Broadcast professionals to support our new digital media platform. This server based system will revolutionize our news production workflow, totally changing the way we acquire, ingest, edit, play and archive video content for Fox News and Fox Business cable and new media properties. As part of this team you will be exposed to all aspects of the news gathering and digital media process. The ideal candidate will have worked in a 24/7 production support environment, is comfortable working with end users, can multitask and brings a positive attitude with them to work each day.
Job overview:
The Database Administrator is responsible for managing one or more database instances in support of the organization’s business objectives.
Duties and Responsibilities:
• Oversees day-to-day operation of the database instance(s)
• Installs and configures database software
• Manages licenses for all database-related software
• Manages the deployment of appropriate security patches, hot fixes, and software updates
• Manages database user accounts, roles, and permissions
• Manages database storage and plans for future capacity
• Performs database backups according to a regular schedule
• Recovers data from backups as needed
• Monitors performance and tunes the database and queries for best performance
• Participates in the development of policies, procedures, and resources that standardize the use and operation of database resources
• Keeps up-to-date documentation of database installations, physical and logical models
• Work with the application and project teams to formulate requirements.
• Provide on-call production support on a large 24×7 database operation.
Knowledge, skills, and abilities:
• Over 5 years experience with DB2.
• Expertise in a physical database design for high concurrency online application
• Good understanding of AIX, storage architecture, and network
• Attention to detail
• UNIX scripting
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills
• Ability to work both independently and as part of a team
• Ability to evaluate critical systems, prioritize work, and determine solutions
• A working knowledge of DB2 architecture and related utilities and AIX platform
